What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?
If you’re practicing law in OR, you need to complete 45 credit hours every 3 years.
- At least 5 hours in Ethics
- At least 1 hour in Child and Elder Abuse Reporting
- At least 3 hours in Access to Justice (every other reporting period)
- At least 1 hour in Substance Abuse and Mental Health
All CLE credits must be completed by midnight on April 30 of the last year of a member’s reporting period. You have until May 31st to report them.
What Types of CLE Courses Are Accepted in Oregon?
All 45 credits can be from Live Webcasts or On-Demand courses.

How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the State Bar of Oregon within 30 days of completion. Attorneys must certify and submit their MCLE transcript by logging into their Member Dashboard on the State Bar of Oregon website by May 31st.
Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
15 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period, including 6 in Ethic. Child and Elder Abuse Reporting and Access to Justice credit may only be carried over as General credit.
What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
If an extension is not granted and the CLE credits are not completed by midnight on April 30th of your reporting year, a $200 fine will be assessed and can be paid when the remaining credits are posted to the transcript. Members who do not comply and submit their MCLE transcript by May 31st of their reporting year will automatically be administratively suspended effective August 1st.
What if I’m New to Practicing in Oregon?
Newly admitted attorneys in Oregon must complete 15 credit hours in the first CLE reporting period following admission.
- At least 2 hours in Ethics (1 of which must in Oregon Ethics and Professionalism)
- At least 9 hours in Practical Skills (4 of which must be specific to Oregon practice and procedure)
- At least 1 hour in Substance Abuse and Mental Health
- A 3-credit Oregon State Bar approved introductory course in Access to Justice
