What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?
If you’re practicing law in AL, you need to complete 12 CLE credits annually, which includes 1 credit in Ethics. You have until December 31st to complete your CLEs, and until February 15th to report to the Alabama State Bar.
What Types of CLE Courses Are Accepted in Alabama?
Alabama requires attorneys to complete at least 6 credit hours of live programs each year. The remaining 6 credits can be taken from On-Demand courses at your convenience.

What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
By early February attorneys who have not full filled their CLE requirements will receive a notice of non-compliance. Attorneys who receive a notice of non-compliance have until February 15 to submit a corrected transcript indicating compliance or submit a deficiency plan and a $100 compliance fee.
What if I’m New to Practicing in Alabama?
Newly Admitted Attorneys are exempt for the remainder of the year in which they were admitted.
By December 31st in the year after they were admitted, attorneys must complete Alabama’s 3-hour Mandatory Professionalism Seminar. Hours earned at this seminar count toward the attorney’s general 12 hour annual CLE requirement. This seminar (Alabama’s Mandatory Professionalism Seminar) will be administered by CLE Alabama on even numbered years and Cumberland School of Law on odd numbered years.
