TN CLE FAQs
How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education within 30 days of course completion.
By February 28th the Commission sends all attorneys an Annual Report Statement showing their compliance transcript from the previous period. Attorneys must complete and return the statement by March 31st.
Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
15 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period.
What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
The Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education will send all attorneys who fail to meet their CLE obligations a notice requiring the attorney to cure the noncompliance. The commission will also charge noncompliant attorneys a $100 fee. Attorneys who fail to come into compliance by May 31 will have their names added to a suspension order. The suspension order will be sent to the state supreme court, as well as to each individual attorney. By August 10, each attorney listed in the suspension order is required to file an affidavit of compliance showing either compliance with MCLE requirements or a valid reason for exemption. If the attorney does not satisfy his or her CLE obligation or obtain an exemption, the state supreme court will suspend the attorney’s law license.
What if I’m New to Practicing in Tennessee?
Newly admitted attorneys are subject to the same CLE requirements as all attorneys.
