What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?
If you’re practicing law in NC, you need to complete 24 credit hours every 2 years. At least 4 of those credits must be in Ethics, 1 credit in Professional Well-being, and 1 hour in Technology.
You have until February 28th to complete your CLEs and to report them.
Compliance Groups:
- Attorneys admitted during an odd year will only have a 1-year, 12-hour requirement – March 1, 2024 – February 28, 2025 (for 2024 only)
- Attorneys admitted during an even year – March 1, 2024 – February 28, 2026

How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Board of Continuing Education within 30 days of completion.
Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
12 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period, but only as General credits.
What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
If the hours have not been completed by the end of your reporting period, you may be subject to monetary penalties or suspension. See more at the Governing Rules of the State Bar.
What if I’m New to Practicing in North Carolina?
Newly admitted attorneys must 4 credit hours in the first 2 years of admittance:
- 12-hour Professionalism for New Attorneys Program
- At least 4 credits in Ethics
- At Least 1 credit in Professional Well-being
- At Least 1 credit in Technology
