Alabama MCLE Requirements Overview
- Total Credits: 12 credit hours per year
- At least 1 hour in Ethics
- At least 1 hour in Ethics
- Credit Format: 6 credits must be Live Webinars, 6 credits may be On-Demand or all 12 credits may be taken as Live Webinars
- All Courses on SproutEd are approved for Live Webinar or On-Demand Credit in Alabama
- CLE Deadline: December 31st
- Reporting Deadline: February 15th
- Reporting Procedure: SproutEd Reports your attendance and credit to the Alabama State Bar 30 days after course completion
- Compliance Procedure: By early February attorneys who have not full filled their CLE requirements will receive a notice of non-compliance. Attorneys who receive a notice of non-compliance have until February 15 to submit a corrected transcript indicating compliance or submit a deficiency plan and a $100 compliance fee.
- Carryover Credit: 12 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period, including 1 in Ethics
- All credit hours may be completed online
- All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Alabama
AL CLE Requirements FAQs
Attorneys admitted to practice for less than one year.
Newly Admitted Attorneys are exempt for the remainder of the year in which they were admitted.
By December 31st in the year after they were admitted, attorneys must complete Alabama’s 3-hour Mandatory Professionalism Seminar. Hours earned at this seminar count toward the attorney’s general 12 hour annual CLE requirement. This seminar (Alabama’s Mandatory Professionalism Seminar) will be administered by CLE Alabama on even numbered years and Cumberland School of Law on odd numbered years. Upcoming dates will be posted on the Approved Course List that is found off your member profile page.
Attorneys can complete all 12 credits on SproutEd. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Alabama.
