Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: 30 credit hours every 3 years:
    • At least 5 in Legal Ethics, Professionalism, Substance Abuse or Mental Health & Wellness
      • At least 1 hour in Professionalism (for reporting cycles ending February and March)
      • Two-credit hour Florida Legal Professionalism course produced by The Florida Bar and approved by the Supreme Court of Florida
    • At least 3 in Technology

       

  • Credit Format: All 30 credits may be On-Demand or Live Webinars

     

  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for Credit in Florida

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: Assigned by the Bar

  • Reporting Deadline: Assigned by the Bar

  • Reporting Procedure: Attorneys report attendance credits by logging into their Member Portal on the Florida bar website and entering the course IDs they were provided by SproutEd upon completion of their course

Additional Info

  • Carryover Credit: No credits may be carried over into the next reporting period

  • All credit hours may be completed online

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Florida

  • The Supreme Court of Florida requires all members with reporting cycles ending in April 2024 and after to complete a 2 hour Professionalism Course produced by the Florida Bar

Florida CLE Requirements FAQs

Attorneys in their initial CLE compliance period that have not yet completed the Basic Skills Course Requirement (BSCR).

Total Credits: 30 credit hours every 3 years:

  • At least 5 in Legal Ethics, Professionalism, Substance Abuse or Mental Illness Awareness
    • At least 1 hour in Professionalism (for reporting cycles ending February and March)
    • Two-credit hour Florida Legal Professionalism course produced by The Florida Bar and approved by the Supreme Court of Florida
  • At least 3 in Technology


Additionally, newly admitted attorneys must complete the Basic Skills Course Requirement (BSCR) which includes:

  • Phase I: Completion of a Practice with Professionalism course Sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar (YLD), no sooner than 12 months prior to and no later than 12 months after an attorney’s admission to the Florida Bar
  • Phase II:  Completion of 3 elective, basic, substantive CLE programs sponsored by the YLD within the first compliance period

Members of the bar under age 36 and who have not been admitted to practice law for more than 5 years are members of the YLD and subject to the BSCR.  New members who are 36 or older and have been admitted for more than 5 years must complete Phase 1 of the BSCR but may file an exemption request for Phase II.

Attorneys can complete all 30 credits on SproutEd, with exception of the two-credit hour Florida Legal Professionalism course produced by The Florida Bar and approved by the Supreme Court of Florida. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Florida.
