Minnesota MCLE Requirements Overview
Credit Requirements
- Total Credits: 45 credit hours every 3 years
- At least 3 hours in Ethics
- At least 2 hours in Elimination of Bias
- At least 1 hour in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder (Compliance Group 1 – CLE due by 6/30/24 is not required to complete until their next compliance period)
- Credit Format: All 45 credits can be Live Webinar courses, 30 of these credits may be taken as On-Demand courses. If the approved on-demand course was viewed and reported after January 1, 2024, and is to satisfy reporting requirements for reporting years 2024 and later, there is no credit cap.
- All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Minnesota
Compliance & Reporting
- CLE Deadline: June 30th
- Reporting Deadline: August 31st
- Compliance and Reporting Procedure: Attorneys report their credits by logging into their Member Portal on the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education website and entering the course ID number provided by SproutEd.

- Reporting Groups: Attorneys are assigned one of three reporting groups, found in the upper left-hand corner of their license. The groups are:
- Category 1: 07/01/21 – 06/30/24; 07/01/24 – 06/30/27
- Category 2: 07/01/21 – 06/30/25; 07/01/25 – 06/30/28
- Category 3: 07/02/23 – 06/30/26; 07/01/26 – 06/30/29
- Carryover Credit: No credits may be carried over to the next reporting period
- All credit hours may be completed online
- All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Minnesota

Minnesota does not distinguish newly admitted attorneys.
All attorneys have the same CLE requirement.
Attorneys can complete all 45 credits on SproutEd. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Minnesota.
