North Carolina MCLE Requirements Overview

Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: Total Credits: 24 credit hours every 2 years
    • At least 4 credits in Ethics
    • At Least 1 credit in Professional Well-being
    • At Least 1 credit in Technology

  • All 24 credits can be from Live Webcasts or On Demand courses

  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in North Carolina

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: February 28th (February 29th on leap years)
     
  • Reporting Deadline: February 28th (February 29th on leap years)

  • Reporting Procedure: SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Board of Continuing Education within 30 days of completion

  • Compliance Groups
    • Attorneys admitted during an odd year will only have a 1-year, 12-hour requirement – March 1, 2024 – February 28, 2025 (for 2024 only)
    • Attorneys admitted during an even year – March 1, 2024 – February 28, 2026

Additional Info

  • Carryover Credit: 12 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period, but only as General credits

  • All 24 credit hours may be completed online

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in North Carolina

Attorneys admitted for two years or less. Attorneys begin their reporting period on March 1st of the calendar year of admission.

Attorneys can complete 24 credits on SproutEd.  All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in North Carolina.
