Pennsylvania MCLE Requirements Overview

Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: 12 credit hours every year
    • At least 2 hours in Ethics, Professionalism or Substance Abuse

  • Credit Format: All 12 credits can be from Live Webcasts, 6 may be from On Demand courses, all of which can be taken on SproutEd

  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Pennsylvania

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: April 30th, August 31st, or December 31st depending on Compliance Group Assignment by the CLE Board

  • Reporting Deadline: January 31st
       
  • Reporting Procedure: SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Pennsylvania Continuing Education Board within 30 days of completion

  • Compliance Procedure: After an attorney’s compliance period ends the Board will send a Final Compliance Notice showing credits completed during the previous compliance period. If the attorney disagrees with the Notice, they must submit written notice to the Board within 30 days.

  • Carryover Credit: 12 Live Webcast credits can be carried forward to the next two reporting periods

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Pennsylvania

  • All courses may be completed online with SproutEd

Attorneys in their first compliance period. 

Newly admitted attorneys are exempt from the CLE requirement for 12 months to 2-years depending on date of admission and compliance group assignment.  Thereafter, the newly admitted attorneys must complete the following CLE requirement during their first compliance period:

Total Credits: 12 credit hours every year:

  • At least 2 hours in Ethics, Professionalism or Substance Abuse
  • 4-credit Bridge the Gap program

Attorneys can complete all 12 credits online with SproutEd. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Pennsylvania.
