Texas MCLE Requirements Overview

Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: 15 credit hours every year
    • At least 3 hours in Ethics

  • Credit Format: All 15 credits can be from Live Webcasts or On Demand courses and can be taken on SproutEd

  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Texas

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: Last day of attorney’s birth month

  • Reporting Deadline: Last day of attorney’s birth month

  • Reporting Procedure: SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the State Bar of Texas within 30 days of course completion.

  • Compliance Procedure: Attorneys are responsible for ensuring their CLE credit file is accurate and up to date, which can be done by logging into their Member Profile on the Texas State Bar website.

Additional Info

  • Carryover Credit: 15 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Texas

  • All credits can be taken online with SproutEd

Texas CLE Requirements FAQs

Attorneys admitted for two years or less following their birthday.

Attorneys certifying compliance for the first time must complete 60 hours of TBLS approved CLE in their specialty area by December 31st of the year they apply for certification.  Credits maybe completed up to 3 years in advance of certification.

Attorneys certifying for the first time must complete TBLS credits must be earned prior to December 31st in the year in which the attorney applies for specialization certification.

Attorneys being re-certified must complete 100 hours of TBLS approved CLE in their specialty area by December 31st, every 5 years from their initial certification.

Attorneys can complete all 15 credits online with SproutEd. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Texas.
