For Delaware attorneys, December 31st is a key deadline. Be sure to complete your required CLE credits to maintain your license and stay in good standing with the Delaware State Bar Association.

What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?

If you’re practicing law in DE, you need to complete 24 CLE credits every 2 years. At least 4 of those credits must be in Advanced Ethics. You have until December 31st to complete your CLEs. The reporting deadline is March 31st (SproutEd handles the reporting for you).

What Types of CLE Courses Are Accepted in Delaware?

12 credits can be On-Demand or Live Webinars. 12 credits must be Live In-Person.

DE CLE FAQs

How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd Reports your attendance and credit to the Delaware Commission on CLE within 30 days of course completion.

Attorney transcripts are available to review on the Commission on CLE website beginning February 1st. Attorneys must review the transcripts and certify compliance by logging into their member portal on the Commission website.

Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
20 credits may be carried over into the next reporting period. Ethics credits can be carried over as General CLE credits.

What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?

On or about January 15th, the Commission shall send a Notice of Noncompliance to each Attorney who did not complete the required CLE credits by the end of the preceding Compliance Year. Each such Attorney shall be assessed a $150 delinquency fee. More details here.

What if I’m New to Practicing in Delaware?

Total Credits: 24 credit hours every 2 years (at least 4 hours in Advanced Ethics).

Additionally, newly admitted attorneys must complete the following Fundamental Courses within their first 4 years of admission:

  1. Fundamentals of Lawyer-Client Relations
  2. Fundamentals of Family Law
  3. Fundamentals of Real Estate
  4. Fundamentals of Civil Litigation
  5. Fundamentals of Will Drafting and Estate Administration
  6. Fundamentals of Law Practice Management and Technology
  7. Fundamentals of Criminal Law and Procedure
