Paralegal CLE Requirements by State

California Paralegal CLE

CLE Requirement for CA Registered Paralegals:

  • 8 hours of CLE every two years
    • 4 hours in Legal Ethics
    • 4 hours in general law or a specialized legal area
  • Paralegals can earn CLE credit through Live Webcasts or On-Demand courses
  • It is the paralegal’s responsibility to maintain their records of certification

Delaware Paralegal CLE

CLE Requirement for DE Registered Paralegals:

  • 8 hours of CLE every two years
    • 1 hour in Enhanced Ethics
  • Paralegals can earn CLE credit through Live Webcasts or On-Demand courses
  • It is the paralegal’s responsibility to maintain their records of certification and submit renewal documentation—including CLE credits, renewal fees, and proof of employment—to the Delaware Paralegal Association at least one month before their renewal date.
  • Paralegals must fulfill their CLE requirements within two years of their initial certification or renewal date

Florida Paralegal CLE

CLE Requirement for FL Registered Paralegals:

  • 30 hours of CLE every three years
    • 5 hours in Ethics or Professionalism
    • 3 hours in Technology
  • Paralegals can earn CLE credit through Live Webcasts or On-Demand courses
  • It is the paralegal’s responsibility to maintain their records of certification and report CLE credits to The Florida Bar

  • It is the paralegal’s responsibility to maintain their records of certification. Texas Paralegals may be subject to an audit by the State Bar of Texas Paralegal Division at any time

General Paralegal CLE

CLE Guidance for Paralegals Without State-Specific Requirements:

  • In states and jurisdictions without mandatory CLE for paralegals, continuing education remains valuable for career development
  • Paralegals may take CLE courses to enhance their knowledge, stay updated on legal trends, and strengthen their skills
  • A certificate of completion is provided and can be used for personal records or self-reporting, depending on employer or association requirements
