Utah CLE Requirements for Attorneys

Utah MCLE Requirements Overview

Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: 12 credit hours per year
    • At least 1 credit in Ethics
    • At least 1 credit in Professionalism

  • Credit Format: All 12 credits can be from Live Webcasts, 6 can be from On Demand courses, all of which can be taken on SproutEd

  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Utah

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: June 30th

  • Reporting Deadline: July 31st

  • Reporting Procedure: SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Utah Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal Education within 30 days of course completion

  • Compliance Procedure:  After an attorney has completed their CLE requirements, they will be able to log into their Practice Portal to review their transcript and pay the compliance fee.  If the transcript is not showing all hours, but the attorney has a record of attendance, then the attorney must fill out and submit the Certificate of Compliance and contact the Board to make payment.

  • Carryover Credit: No may be carried over into the next reporting period

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Utah

  • All courses may be taken online with SproutEd

Utah CLE Requirements FAQs

Attorneys in their first reporting period after admission to the bar.

By the end of their first reporting period, newly admitted attorneys must complete the Utah State Bar’s New Lawyer Training Program.

Attorneys can complete all 12 credits online with SproutEd. All of SproutEd’s courses are approved for credit in Utah.
