Washington CLE Requirements for Attorneys

Washington MCLE Requirements Overview

Credit Requirements

  • Total Credits: 45 credit hours every 3 years
    • At least 15 credits in Law and Legal Procedure
    • At least 6 credits in Ethics (1 must be in Equity, Inclusion and the Mitigation of Bias)

       

  • Credit Format: All 45 credits can be from Live Webcasts or On Demand courses and can be taken on SproutEd. Only 8 credits may be earned per day.
  • All Courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Washington

Compliance & Reporting

  • CLE Deadline: December 31st

  • Reporting Deadline: February 1st

  • Reporting Procedure: SproutEd reports credits for Live Webcasts to the Washington Bar Association.  Attorneys must self-report credits from On-Demand courses using the Washington MCLE Portal.

  • Compliance Procedure: Attorneys certify compliance using the MCLE Portal by February 1st.

Additional Info

  • Carryover Credit: 15 credits may be carried into the next reporting period, including 2 in Ethics

  • All courses on SproutEd are approved for credit in Washington

  • All courses can be taken online with SproutEd

Washington CLE Requirements FAQs

Washington does not distinguish newly admitted attorneys for CLE purposes.

Newly admitted have the same CLE requirement as all attorneys.

Attorneys can complete all 45 credits online with SproutEd.
