June 2025 Minnesota CLE Deadline: Attorney Guide

Navigating the June 2025 Minnesota CLE Deadline

If you’re an attorney in Minnesota, June 30th is an important deadline to remember. With the Minnesota CLE cutoff quickly approaching, it’s essential to confirm that you’ve fulfilled all required credits to keep your license in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education.

We recognize how busy your schedule can be, so we’re here to simplify the process of meeting Minnesota’s CLE obligations efficiently.

What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?

If you’re practicing law in MN, you need to complete 45 credit hours every 3 years. At least 3 of those credits must be in Ethics, at least 2 hours in Elimination of Bias, and at least 1 hour in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder.

You have until June 30th to complete your CLEs, and until August 31st to report them.

Reporting Groups: Attorneys are assigned one of three reporting groups, found in the upper left-hand corner of their license. The groups are:

  • Category 1: 07/01/21 – 06/30/24; 07/01/24 – 06/30/27
  • Category 2: 07/01/21 – 06/30/25; 07/01/25 – 06/30/28
  • Category 3: 07/02/23 – 06/30/26; 07/01/26 – 06/30/29

What Types of CLE Courses Are Accepted in Minnesota?

All 45 credits can be Live Webinar courses, 30 of these credits may be taken as On-Demand courses.

MN CLE FAQs

How do I report my CLE credits?
Attorneys report their credits by logging into their Member Portal on the Minnesota Board of Continuing Legal Education website and entering the course ID number provided by SproutEd.

Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
No credits may be carried over to the next reporting period.

What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
If you have not met your CLE requirements by June 30, you may attend courses and complete CLE requirements between July 1 and August 31 without requesting a formal extension from the Board. But you must report your CLE compliance by August 31.

If a lawyer cannot finish the CLE courses before the August 31 deadline, the lawyer should ask for an extension. If you have an extension, the CLE office staff marks your record to show that you intend to comply by a certain date. You will still owe a $75 late fee. But if you have been given an extension, your license will stay in good standing during the extension period.
