UT CLE FAQs
How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Utah Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal Education within 30 days of course completion.
After an attorney has completed their CLE requirements, they will be able to log into their Practice Portal to review their transcript and pay the compliance fee. If the transcript is not showing all hours, but the attorney has a record of attendance, then the attorney must fill out and submit the Certificate of Compliance and contact the Board to make payment.
Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
No credits may be carried over into the next reporting period.
What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?
An attorney who fails to complete their MCLE requirements will be given 30 days to become compliant. If they fail to do so, the Utah State Board of Continuing Legal Education will submit a petition for the lawyer’s suspension to the state supreme court. The lawyer may also request a hearing before the Utah State Board of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education. If the lawyer is still found to be noncompliant, the state supreme court will suspend the lawyer.
Rule 14-415 of the MCLE Rules of the Utah Supreme Court Board of Continuing Legal Education covers noncompliance with MCLE requirements.
What are the requirements for newly admitted attorneys in Utah?
By the end of their first reporting period, newly admitted attorneys must complete the Utah State Bar’s New Lawyer Training Program.
