Do CLE requirements differ for part-time vs full-time attorneys in Kentucky?

No — Kentucky’s CLE rules do not distinguish between part-time and full-time attorneys; all active attorneys must meet the same requirement.

Kentucky attorneys must complete 12 CLE credit hours per reporting year (July 1 to June 30), including at least 2 hours of ethics/professional responsibility.

Details:

  • All 12 hours can be earned through accredited technologically transmitted (self-study) programs.
  • Excess credits can be carried forward: up to 24 credits total (4 of which may be ethics) over the next two years.
  • CLE completion must occur by June 30 each year; credit reporting is due by August 10.
  • Attorneys may apply for exemption under SCR 3.665.

Key Takeaway: Kentucky imposes uniform CLE rules — part-time status confers no reduction or special treatment under the 12-hour requirement.
