Is live webcast or in-person CLE required in Colorado?

No — Colorado does not require CLE to be completed in person; live webcast and recorded formats are fully permitted. Colorado allows attorneys to satisfy all CLE requirements via live webcasts or previously recorded (on-demand) programs.

Annual CLE Requirements in Colorado

  • Total requirement: 45 credit hours per three-year reporting period, with 7 hours in professional responsibility.
  • Compliance reporting deadline: December 31 for activities, with reporting by January 31.

Credit Formats and Limits

  • Live webcast (interactive real-time) programs count as live and satisfy CLE requirements.
  • Previously recorded or on-demand programs are accepted as distance learning for all credits.
  • Independent study (unaccredited) is allowed for up to 9 general credits per compliance period but cannot satisfy professional responsibility credits.

Provider Approval & Reporting

  • CLE programs must be accredited by the Colorado CLJE Office for automatic transcript entry.
  • Attorneys must self-report attendance or completion of accredited programs via the Colorado CLE transcript system.
  • For non-accredited live or homestudy programs, attorneys may apply for credit using specific forms (Form 1B or Form 7).

Key Takeaway: Colorado allows full satisfaction of CLE requirements through live webcasts and recorded programs; there is no mandate for in-person attendance.
