Is live webcast or in-person CLE required in Minnesota?

No – Minnesota no longer requires that at least 15 of the 45 CLE credits earned in each 3-year reporting period be completed through live programs.. All 45 credits may be completed through on-demand or recorded programs approved by the Minnesota State Board of Continuing Legal Education.

Minnesota CLE Framework

  • Total requirement: 45 CLE credits every 3 years
  • Live credit minimum: There is no longer a live credit minimum (in-person or live webcast)
  • On-demand limit: All 45 credits per 3-year period may be earned through on-demand or recorded courses approved by the Board
  • Ethics requirement: 3 hours in ethics or professional responsibility
  • Elimination of bias requirement: 2 hours in elimination of bias
  • Mental health/substance use requirement: 1 hour in mental health or substance use disorder awareness
  • Reporting deadline: June 30 of the attorney’s reporting year
  • Carryover: Excess credits may not carry forward to the next reporting cycle
