What counts toward CLE requirements in Wyoming?

In Wyoming, attorneys satisfy CLE by completing approved live, self-study, teaching, writing, or pro bono activities—subject to caps and format rules under Rule 6 of the Wyoming CLE regulations.

Wyoming lawyers must earn 15 CLE credit hours per calendar year, including 2 hours of legal ethics.

Qualifying CLE activities

  • Attendance at live or interactive programs (in-person, live webcast, teleconference)
  • Self-study / on-demand courses (audio, video, online) — limited to 6 hours per year
  • Teaching or presenting approved CLE programs — earning credit (often triple) for instruction time when approved
  • Legal writing / publication of approved legal materials (with submitted materials)
  • Pro bono public service: Up to 5 CLE credit hours per year, at a rate of 1 CLE credit per 2 hours of pro bono service (mentoring or legal work)

Limits, Carryover & Special Rules

  • At least 7 of the 15 hours must be from live programs (or live webcast)
  • Ethics (2 hours) may only be obtained through approved programs (not from all formats)
  • Excess (beyond 15) credit hours may be carried forward for two years, including ethics hours
  • CLE credit is computed on a 60-minute hour basis (i.e. 60 minutes = 1 credit)
  • Attorneys must self-report CLE credits via the application process for each credit (for non-accredited courses)
  • Newly admitted attorneys are exempt from CLE in the calendar year of admission

Key Takeaway: In Wyoming, you fulfill your 15-hour annual CLE requirement by combining live programs, limited self-study, teaching, writing, and pro bono work—while also meeting the 2-hour ethics mandate, observing self-study caps, and leveraging up to two years of carryover when needed.
