December 2024 Nebraska CLE Deadline: What Attorneys Need to Know

As an attorney practicing in Nebraska, December 31st marks a crucial date on your calendar. With the Nebraska Continuing Legal Education deadline just around the corner, it’s time to ensure you’ve completed all the necessary credits to maintain your license and stay in good standing with the State of Nebraska Judicial Branch.

What Are My Deadlines and Credit Requirements?

If you’re practicing law in NE, you need to complete 10 CLE credits per calendar year. At least 2 of those credits must be in Ethics.

You have until December 31st to complete your CLEs, and until January 20th to report them (SproutEd handles the reporting for you).

What Types of CLE Courses Are Accepted in Nebraska?

5 credits must be Live In-Person courses; 5 credits can be On-Demand or Live Webcast courses.

NE CLE FAQs

How do I report my CLE credits?
SproutEd reports your attendance and credit to the Nebraska Supreme Court within 30 days of completion.

By October 1st the Director of Judicial Branch Education emails all attorneys asking them to review their online accounts for accuracy. Starting on December 1st, attorneys can certify their CLE compliance on the Annual Report through their Member Portal.

Can I carry over extra CLE credits?
5 Live In-Person credits may be carried over, excluding Ethics credits.

What are the consequences of not completing my CLE in time?

In Nebraska, if you fail to complete your required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) by the deadline, you could face disciplinary action from the Nebraska Supreme Court, including potential suspension of your right to practice law in the state.

What if I’m New to Practicing in Nebraska?

Newly admitted attorneys are subject to the same CLE requirements as all attorneys.
