New Members: Free 1 credit course with code FREECLE

What are the CLE requirements for inactive attorneys in California?

Inactive members of the California State Bar are exempt from the MCLE requirement during the period they are inactive.

Inactive attorneys do not need to complete CLE or report hours, provided their status is properly recorded with the State Bar.

If an inactive member returns to active status during a compliance period, their MCLE obligation will be prorated based on the months they were active and not exempt.

Key Takeaway: While inactive in California, attorneys are excused from MCLE duties and reporting; upon reactivation, CLE obligations are adjusted proportionally.
